Made for the exhibition, At First Light: The Dawning of Asian Pacific America, the image on this habutai silk scarf is from a hand-drawn illustration by Alan Ohashi, based on photos of East First Street taken by Ohashi and Bob Nakamura, both of Visual Communications, the first Asian Pacific American media organization in the United States. East First Street has been considered the historic heart of Little Tokyo in Los Angeles for over 100 years. In 1995, the north side of East First Street, a portion of which is depicted here, was named a National Historic Landmark. Black on pearl grey. 13”W x 59”L .
